2024 Spring Regatta

May 18 & 19, 2024 | Lake Yosemite, Merced, California

Lake Yosemite Sailing Association, invites you to our 25th Annual Spring Regatta. This two-day event will consist of a total of four or more races (wind allowing), with three or more races on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday. There will be a meeting for all skippers at 10 am Saturday on the Clubhouse patio. The first warning horn will be at 11 am Saturday and Sunday. Trophies will be presented on Sunday after the last race.

Pre-registration deadline is April 30, 2024. Skippers may also register on Saturday, May 18 beginning at 9 am at the registration table. Course sheets and sailing instructions will be provided in the race packet at the registration table. Sailing Instructions will be posted on our website by May 13.

Registration: $40 (on or before April 30) $50 (After April 30)
Saturday Night Dinner: $25 (Adults) $10 (Children 12 and under)
Saturday Lunch: sandwich, chips, soft drink, $15
Park entrance Fee: $6 per vehicle & $6 per boat (cash only)
Camping: Free

Per Lake Yosemite Park rules, no pets allowed.


Regatta Details

The scoring will be the low-point system. All races will be sailed under current U.S. Racing Rules of Sailing and the Sailing Instructions. This Regatta is open to centerboards, keelboats, and multihulls. Non-one-design keel will race under NorCal PHRF time-on-time and non-one-design centerboards/multi-hulls under RYA Portsmouth. Fleets will be decided by entries received by April 30. Five boats or more will constitute a one design fleet.

We have a wide launch ramp with long floating fingers on both sides. There are a limited number of slips for use over the weekend. Inquire at the Clubhouse. Boats may be stored on trailers in the parking lot overnight.

You may camp in your RV at the Club parking lot or set up a tent on the Clubhouse lawn. No hookups are available. Security will be provided on Friday and Saturday nights for boats and trailers in the parking lot. Pets are not allowed in the park. Camping is free.

1. RULES: The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

2. NOTICES TO RACERS/CHANGES TO SIs will be posted on the official notice board located by the back door of the LYSA Clubhouse.

3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Any changes to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0930 on the day it will take effect.

4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE will be displayed from the lake end of the LYSA docks.

5. SCHEDULE OF RACES: Number of races: Three races are planned for Saturday, with a lunch break. A fourth race is possible, time permitting. Two races are planned for Sunday. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race each day is 1100. Two or more races shall constitute a series.

6. CLASS FLAGS will be the pennant for each Class as announced at the skippers’ meeting.

7. THE COURSES: The 2024 Regatta Course Map shows the courses, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left. The approximate course length is also shown. No later than the warning signal, the RC will designate the course by a numerical placard displayed on the race deck before your preparatory signal.

8. MARKS are red buoys, approximately 2 ó feet high, except for Mark 4 which is a small island.

9. THE START: Races will be started by using rule 26 with the warning signal made 5 minutes before the starting signal. The starting line will be between the two green buoys. Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting sequence for other races.

10. THE FINISH: The finishing line will be between the two green buoys, which also function as the Start line. Boats on the downwind leg from Mark 1 to Mark 8 shall not pass through the Start/Finish line. Boats that have finished shall keep clear of the start/finish area.

11. TIME LIMITS: Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat in their fleet sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5.

12. PROTESTS & REQUESTS FOR REDRESS:

12.1 Hearing request forms are available at the desk in the LYSA Clubhouse. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.
12.2 For each class, the protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day or the race committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later.
12.3 Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses and where the hearings will be held.
12.4 Notices of protests by the race committee, technical committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under RRS 61.1(b).
12.5 On the last scheduled day of racing, a request for redress based on a protest committee decision shall be delivered no later than 30 minutes after the decision was posted. This changes RRS 62.2.

13. SCORING: The low point scoring system of Appendix A will apply. There will be no throw outs.

14. SAFETY REGULATIONS: Personal flotation devices are required, per RRS 40. A boat that retires from a race shall notify the RC as soon as possible.

15. EQUIPMENT: All boats racing as a class shall conform to the class specifications. (PHRF Fleet shall conform to their NCPHRF Certificate and the Fleet rules.)

16. PRIZES will be awarded as soon as possible after the last race on Sunday.

17. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY: Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 3, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damages or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.
